Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges May 7–12 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Sunday, May 7, and Monday, May 8
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road

The ramp will be closed both nights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers heading to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay left and follow signs to the exit on the left. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Monday, May 8, through Friday, May 12
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed nightly Monday through Thursday nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for sound wall work, and Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Monday night, May 8, and Tuesday night, May 9
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North and South and part of the I-66 East collector-distributor lane
A portion of the I-66 East collector-distributor lane and the ramps will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier installation and asphalt sampling. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North or South. 

Monday night, May 8, through Wednesday night, May 10
Ramp from Route 286 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed each night between midnight and 4 a.m. for barrier removal and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Monday, May 8; Tuesday, May 9; Thursday night, May 11; and Friday night, May 12 
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving, and Thursday and Friday nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for a concrete pour. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

Monday night, May 8
Ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed farther north to I-66 West, exit to Route 50 East, then stay left and follow signs to I-66 East.

Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9
Ramps from I-66 West to I-495 South and the 495 Express Lanes South
The ramps will be closed both nights between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for utility installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and follow signs to Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South or the 495 Express Lanes South.

Monday, May 8, through Friday, May 12
Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West   
The ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North and I-66, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Monday, May 8, through Wednesday, May 10
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed each night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

Tuesday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 10
Ramp from I-66 East to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramps will be closed both nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.

Tuesday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 10
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed both nights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers heading to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.

Tuesday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 10
Ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. both nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.  

Thursday, May 11
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North and South 
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Drivers will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 North Gainesville, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East and follow signs to Route 234 Business.

Thursday night, May 11, and Friday night, May 12
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. both nights for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to the I-66 West ramp, stay right to the Route 286 South ramp, then stay right to I-66 East. 

Friday, May 12
Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.
