Overnight 30-Minute Traffic Stoppages on I-495 North near Lewinsville Road Overpass in McLean and George Washington Memorial Parkway Interchange Exit 43, May 31 - June 2
Closures necessary to remove overhead signs
FAIRFAX, VA – Between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. starting Wednesday, May 31 and continuing through Friday, June 2, 495 NEXT project work crews will implement periodic stoppages of all lanes for up to 30 minutes on the northbound I-495 general purpose and express lanes near the Lewinsville Road overpass and George Washington Memorial Parkway interchange (Exit 43). Following each 30-minute stoppage, one lane will reopen to clear traffic before the next 30-minute closure is implemented.
The closures are necessary to safely remove overhead signs on the Beltway. In the event of inclement weather, the periodic stoppages and associated work will be postponed to the following overnight. Drivers are urged to slow down and use additional caution when approaching and traveling through the work zone. Travelers should anticipate delays and consider taking an alternate route.
This work is part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project to extend the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the GWMP near the American Legion Bridge.
Visit 495NEXT.org for the latest construction and lane closure information.
