ALL LANES TO REOPEN ON DENBIGH BOULEVARD OVER I-64 AS BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION NEARS COMPLETION
Newly-replaced Denbigh Boulevard overpass bridge to fully reopen to traffic starting as early as July 11

NEWPORT NEWS – Starting as early as July 11, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to reopen all lanes of travel, providing two lanes in each direction, on Denbigh Boulevard at the bridge over Interstate 64 following the complete replacement of the overpass bridge in Newport News. Additionally, the long-term closure of Richneck Road at Denbigh Boulevard will be removed, restoring traffic access to and from Richneck Road at Denbigh Boulevard.

This project replaced the previous structurally deficient bridge, located between Warwick Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue, with a new bridge that meets current design standards.

The project included demolition of the former bridge and construction of a new bridge with four 12-foot lanes, a 16-foot raised median, and two 8.5-foot sidewalks, as well as new roadway approaches and stormwater management facilities.

Kokosing Construction Company began construction on the $23 million project in March 2019.
