VDOT News - Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – On Monday, Aug. 21, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 629 (Jacks Creek Road) in King William County for approximately five months to install a concrete box culvert.

The project will replace the existing culvert, which consists of three corrugated metal drainage pipes. The existing structure was built in 1943.

During construction, drivers will be detoured approximately 7 miles using the following routes:

Route 629 (Jacks Creek Road)

Route 632 (Mount Olive Cohoke Road)

Route 621 (Green Level Road)

Route 600 (East River Road)

Construction activity will be underway from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Weather permitting, the culvert replacement project is expected to be complete and the road reopened to traffic in January 2024.

Message boards will be posted in advance of the road closure to notify motorists about the upcoming project and detour.

According to a recent VDOT traffic count, approximately 144 vehicles use this portion of Jacks Creek Road daily.
