CONSTRUCTION FOR NEW ROUTE 207 SOUTHBOUND BRIDGE IN CAROLINE COUNTY STARTING SOON
Project will replace structurally deficient bridge over Mattaponi River
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will soon begin work to replace a structurally deficient bridge over Mattaponi River on southbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) in Caroline County.
The $7.9 million project will replace the existing structure with a new concrete bridge and beams.
With work starting next week, drivers will begin to see construction activity on Route 207 southbound between Holly Hill Drive and Sycamore Hill Lane.
Crews will be working Mondays through Fridays. Periodic weekend work may be needed.
Weather permitting, Route 207 southbound will close to traffic at the bridge in late May 2020 to allow crews to demolish the existing structure and build a new bridge. At that time, Route 207 will be reduced to two travel lanes. All traffic will be shifted to cross the Mattaponi River on the northbound bridge, with one travel lane open in each direction.
Prior to the traffic shift in May, single lane closures will be scheduled during daytime and overnight hours. All travel lanes on Route 207 will be open at peak morning and afternoon rush hour periods on weekdays.
The new bridge is expected to open in July 2021, with all construction complete by September 2021.
The project contractor is Corman Kokosing Construction Company.
